Soon My Friends Soon

I've been thinking about recording some songs a lot recently, and now Steam has released Music Creator 6 Touch, which I will download soon, and then I can start recording some pieces. They will be instrumental at first, while I work out how to use this program, and until I get a microphone worth using. Either way expect something musical to be recorded within the next 2 months or I will set my balls on fire.

The Next Concert

I will be honest, when it comes to my guitar playing I have been an idiot. Instead of actually practising songs for my exam I have been working to improve my guitar playing as a whole, which is good in a way, but not right now. Now there is a Concert in less than three weeks time, and I haven't practised for it. Crap!
I suppose I could perform some of the songs I've already done before like My Dying Bride and Helena, but I don't really feel like doing Helena again because I've performed it recently, so I'll choose another Blitzkid song, maybe En Infinitus Sleepus (Lullaby). Blitzkid songs are easy enough to play. but I have to do two more songs as a group, currently Walk Like A Zombie and Are You Gonna Be My Girl, I may have to change Walk Like A Zombie to Smells Like Teen Spirit though.

A New Song (and a little more)

OK, I've come up with a (disappointingly) none horror punk song, about some guy getting dumped, and it doesn't really need much work done to it, it just needs to be recorded, and I will get this song recorded properly instead of just using GP6 to get the audio, which won't work anyway, because you need lyrics for a song to actually work. All it needs is a final verse to conclude the song and a guitar solo either before or after it.
This will be my first version of the song which may actually be made to sound either more metal or more punk, but I doubt it, it may just be made slightly more rocky, it's just that I can't really write guitar solos very well (at the moment).

Completely unrelated, I'm getting various ideas in my head for various books, the books may be a bit short though, it depends on how much I can come up with for them. If I ever get around to writing any there is a website my girlfriend told me about where i can upload them as .pdf files and you can stick it on your kindle or whatever e-reader you own, or just your PC if you find reading off it comfortable (I don't)

I also need a drum beat as well thinking about it... damn, I hate writing drumbeats.

Sixth Form

Since I'm now back at school, maybe I'll get some work done, on a new piece or two, annoyingly I only have half the amount of music lessons I should have (damned Business Studies). The music tasks are pretty much the same as last time: performing solo, performing in a group, singing, compositing, practising and extra curricular something or other. For the composition I have to hand in one complete piece and some pieces that aren't finished that I have been experimenting with, so it's slightly easier than last time I think. The best part is: even at school I have too much free time, that's actually quite annoying, none of my friends have a free period when I do.

A Nice Soothing Song

Yesterday was the school's talent show... and I was performing in it alongside my girlfriend Dana. We sang a song which is one of our favourite songs, Ghost River by Nightwish. the song started off with Dana singing quite softly, and then I come in singing screamo and scaring the audience to death. During the interval I see two children no older than 4 years old, and realise they were in the audience. Damn. Earlier today I learned that both the children ended up crying during mine and Dana's act and all that I could say to that was "It sure was a good job I didn't know they were there. Otherwise I would of scared them a lot more."
No surprises but we didn't win the competition or get in the top 3, I guess we both knew that from the start because metal singers never seem to go anywhere in talent shows. Either way this goes towards my music GCSE and when I put lyrics to the crappy Guitar Pro 6 recording of "You Look So Pretty" my music GCSE will be mostly sorted and just missing the exam.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention, in the interval I went to give my friend Francesca a high 5 and she literally jumped out of her skin... funny as hell.

DayDream

This time when I say I've wrote a song, I give you a link to download the music. Admittedly it isn't technically a song, there are no lyrics, but its a piece of music none the less. The title of the piece is DayDream simply because it reminds me of my countless daydreams in geography.
If you remember when I said I was going to "recycle" old riffs, that is what I did for DayDream, I took the intro riff and chord pattern from The Spaceman Cometh, i used the chord pattern from Lies to make part 2 and i even used the "Unicorn Riff" as an outro.

Improvisation Is The Future

OK well I'm back in school tomorrow, which is neither good or bad. Now my plan was to record a song during my music lesson for my GCSE the way I shall do that is by making up a riff/chord pattern now and tomorrow I'll make up the lyrics as I go along. This could be fun, especially since I'll put that forward to my teacher using it to get my music GCSE, I can't wait.

A challenge Worth Doing

I've been listening to "Teenage Necrophilian Love" by "Blitzkid" a lot, and just before the main body of the song starts he asks the listeners to dance with their loved ones. This made me think, "What makes good dance music?" I came to the conclusion that dance music involves a fast steady beat, and a good bass line to hold it together. I came up with that conclusion from the lyrics of some dance song, "I like my beats fast, and my bass down low" I don't know what the song is but I don't really care.

While listening to "Teenage Necrophilian Love" I did realise that I most likely could dance to it (providing that I could dance in the first place). So my challenge is to create Metal dance Music. So now I just need to create the music and then test it on a dancer. Thankfully I know a dancer.

Completion

The Spaceman Cometh is complete! Will be hitting YouTube when I can get all instruments together for a recording session (and when I get a Camcorder). New features include: harmonic introduction, rhythm and lead guitars, bass, improved lyrics and a better solo.

METAL

Well I've been blasting metal down my speakers almost constantly for the past seven days, I've even found a very nice and heavy version of "smells like teen spirit" by "Nirvana" who I think are crap, but the cover by "Bruthal-6" is completely awesome. I've also had a nice amount of "Metallica" pumped into my skull, mostly "whiskey in the jar" which is a tribute to "Thin Lizzy" which is a cover of a boring folk song by "The Dubliners". The weird part of this is the amount of "Nightwish" I've been listening to, the reason it's weird is because I introduced Dana to them and she got me into them, or isn't that as weird as I initially thought?
I've also decided I'm not going to play bass for the school production since I'm getting confused with traditional notation and the fact that Guitar Pro 6 won't convert it to tablature, this is just getting annoying. I guess I'll have to find something else to do for my music GCSE.
i also had a very interesting day with Jazz and my southern cousins (they thankfully didn't annoy us too much and left us to happily kill zombies) but I found her weak spot and then watched the latest "Shrek" film. All-in-all a good day, and tomorrow I get to annoy one half of my social circle.

Challenge Accepted

OK it's not much of a challenge.
Anyway what I have to do is master twenty-two songs (all the songs from the wedding singer) on the bass guitar. My only problem is that everything is in Traditional Notation which until about five minutes ago I didn't understand (I barely understand it now) but either way i will master these songs, I will play them as part of the school production and they will count towards my music GCSE.
I'm expecting my music teacher would have a big ol' troll face when I see him after the play.
Five weeks, twenty-two songs, four strings, six fingers, three pick-ups, one cable, one amplifier, one band, one production, one school and I'm just going to leave it there because I'm out of things to number.

Information Gathering

Well today I found out a few things, two of which I found quite interesting and fairly entertaining. The first thing is that I have a really big arse, I don't know if that's an insult or not (if it was then it was a terrible insult). The fact this was brought up is strange I was happily playing "Ace Of Spades" on my guitar (which I left at school, damn) when a voice appears somewhere behind me saying "George, you have a REALLY big bum."
The second thing is that I did absolutely terrible with my biology coursework, I'm not surprised really, Miss didn't explain it very well.
Finally that my mate Sam can't stand the sight of blood, we were dissecting a heart in biology and he just fled the room and puked his guts out. So me and me other mate Tree decided to annoy him by talking about ways to prepare hearts for a meal.
All in all a fairly boring day since Dana was ill and Jazz had a trip leaving me with very little to occupy myself with at break and lunch.

Shark

I've just wrote a new song which is entitled "Shark". Conveniently the song is about a shark who terrorises the local fishermen because he thinks that all fishermen are complete and total dicks which must be annihilated (or something along those lines) but does it matter why a shark is trying to kill someone? of course it doesn't its a shark and they don't like people.

Squealies

Now that I'm done with my geography detentions I can concentrate on my graphics detentions. Oh joy! Any way that's actually two subjects off my back because I realised that Imogen is six times better at singing than playing the bass guitar (and she's barely average at singing). this means instead I can teach Dana bass and she is willing to learn it as well.
Squealies are really what I wanted to talk about because I've now worked out roughly how to do them but I can't yet get them done quickly there is about a second delay between the initial note until it becomes a squealy, or pinch harmonic if you prefer. I ended up rushing from my geography lesson to the music practise room at lunch just to claim it before anyone else can, which involved saying no to Jazz, and when I got my guitar and got in to find the EPIC amplifier I was using earlier still there someone else came in then left because I beat him. I connected my Lodgestone guitar to the amp and started playing "pumpkinpatch murders" by "Blitzkid" and after god knows how many tries I hit the squealy in the intro and it sounded so epic with the effect of the amp (it was all a bit high pitched made it sound like stereotypical metal, a bit like "3 Inches of Blood") and I was very impressed with that.
Overall it was a good day too.

Stress

Well the problem with school is that you always get lessons where you have a mountain of work lying on your back... I have lessons each coming with a mountain of work: Graphics, Geography and Music. For graphics I have to do what seems like a million pages of work all in size 6 font with pretty pictures, graphs and amazing presentation (which is a pain), for geography I have to get all my results copied up from a trip to Bakewell which would be easy enough if I actually had results to copy (which gives me another hour detention tomorrow) and music is only bad because I have to teach Imogen bass and she WONT STOP LAUGHING! I'm just gonna beat into submission until she becomes Steve Harris at this rate she is driving me mental. But, with all these mountains piled upon my clockwork brain I'm getting EXTREMELY STRESSED.
The cure however resided within Jazz (not the genre of music I mean my girlfriend) and the song "we're not gonna take it" by "Twisted Sister" (I heard it played through an open window and it cheered me up in some strange way). The main part in cheering me up was in Jazz's warm grip, speaking softy and sweetly, making bad jokes and trying not to stand in horse crap, which there was lots of. But now I'm not near Jazz I can take my mind off all this using my good friend METAL which is always there for me.
I can also get back to writing my book too.

Entertainment

I have been able to keep myself happily entertained by singing and playing guitar and video games (mostly video games). I've been having fun with a song and dance, I've been rockin' out with the guitar, and I've walked into a decent amount of inanimate objects in a similar fashion  as how I met Matty Brass (yes I met him by running into him while knocking on for a friend, we were 3 years old at the time). About 90% of the objects I walked into (like the annoying doors outside my form room) I called Philip the remaining 10% just weren't named at all.
The biggest highlight so far is that I successfully obtained a girlfriend (the best way to describe her is off her rocking chair and my cup of tea), she's called Jazz, I thought I'd mention that because this blog is about a teenagers dream to become a rock star and the quest of getting there, it's also a day in the life of a teenager wishing to become a rock star, I'm that teenager, my name is George and I'm completely awesome (well that depends on who you ask really).
And right now, as a side note, she is bothering me on MSN (because she wont get Skype which is so much better).

Distractions

I have been doing very little musically related recently instead I have been playing Minecraft and trying to get friends to go on a walk with me. When I succeeded in getting Dana to join me on this walk I ended up extremely embarrassed (which is unusual for me but I have good reason), what happened was somewhere down Biddulph Valley Way I turn around and see a man running wearing a white jumper and Lycra trousers, and from 20 metres (which is roughly how far apart we were from each other) and with my bad eyesight I say "Hey, it's my dad." because they look exactly alike at the time my dad has that jumper and those trousers. Then he runs past and says "Bet your embarrassed now." and I was embarrassed very embarrassed and Dana is in laughing her head off. Not the most productive walk I've been on, especially when I realised that my dad wouldn't be back from work until about 22:30 so I just generally failed.
What little I have done on guitar is learn the intro to falling apart by Zebrahead and the first parts of Halo Mjolnir Mix by Martin O'Donnell. So not much basically now I shall fix the tabs since they didn't print properly and then check that my guitar is in tune, I have ordered a clip on guitar tuner to make this easier.

Sheet Music

I finally managed to get a printed copy of the sheet music / tablature for mental health (guitar and bass), anthem (guitar and bass) and the spaceman cometh (just guitar, there is no bass line yet). This made it easier to teach my padawan learner the only problem was that my bass was VERY out of tune and my music teacher couldn't hear it without the amp, this means I definitely need clip on tuner because I'm going to need to tune my bass every few times i get it out of the case.

The Apprentice

So today i had to start work on teaching my good friend Imogen how to play the bass guitar. I started off with the strings E, A, D and G, to remember I told her "Every Asshole Dies Gracefully." I thought it best then to get her to place her thumb on the pick-up and play the E string by making a finger person and having him/her walk on the string. Then the bell went and she had to go to her next lesson while I just moved my bass into the music room and got funky.
Naturally sir had to be a pain in the arse by making us attempt to write world music using a pentatonic scale or some others I can't remember, conveniently enough the notes he wrote on the board belong to the treble clef scale and not the bass (scales are unique to the four clefs). Plus I don't know the notes by name. Instead I just played the first riff from the bass battle off Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (which is an amazing movie by the way) and when I got bored of that I just played Mental Health by Zebrahead
