Year 12 Concert

Thursday (24th April) was the Year 12 Concert, it went quite well to be honest. However, my solo pieces didn't really go to plan, and I have been told to stick to just playing an instrument, or just singing, not both, so I think I'll just play my bass from now on (at least until I can comfortably do both). I was temporarily inducted into a band for the concert, they call themselves "Cyan Cities" which is a name I don't really expect to be seen on any posters.

As a band we mostly work quite well together, we just have major problems with our front man Sam, for two reasons. Reason one: he can't sing to save his life, he's terrible, even if you auto-tuned him, he would be miles off the right notes. Reason two: he steals the spotlight, which probably isn't much of a problem, but since this was being recorded for an exam, and he wasn't being examined (it was just me and our drummer, Joe, being examined), he was being a tad inconsiderate. If your wondering he had his guitar amp up really loud, so you couldn't hear my bass, or the drums, thankfully though, our lead guitarist (Mikey) understood that this was for an exam and turned his amp down, which meant we couldn't hear him over Sam.

I imagine if we replace Sam, we might be a reasonably good band, but until then who knows, if we're lucky people will start taking the mick out of him for his horrendous performance and he'll either quit or learn, I don't care which, but if he quits we'll need a replacement. Replacing rhythm guitar would be easy, I can think of three people who would (probably) be willing, but a new singer is a bit harder.

The Next Concert

I will be honest, when it comes to my guitar playing I have been an idiot. Instead of actually practising songs for my exam I have been working to improve my guitar playing as a whole, which is good in a way, but not right now. Now there is a Concert in less than three weeks time, and I haven't practised for it. Crap!
I suppose I could perform some of the songs I've already done before like My Dying Bride and Helena, but I don't really feel like doing Helena again because I've performed it recently, so I'll choose another Blitzkid song, maybe En Infinitus Sleepus (Lullaby). Blitzkid songs are easy enough to play. but I have to do two more songs as a group, currently Walk Like A Zombie and Are You Gonna Be My Girl, I may have to change Walk Like A Zombie to Smells Like Teen Spirit though.

The Concert

Next Thursday is the year 11 concert at school, and I hate to say that I am currently under prepared and wishing that Jacko had told me he wouldn't do the guitar for me earlier. That means I now have to choose 2 songs which can be easily played on guitar, I Love Rock 'N' Roll, and Hit Me With Your Best Shot. I'm gonna miss out the solo for Hit Me With Your Best Shot because I can't trill for shit, but, the solo in I Love Rock 'N' Roll is quite simple so I should do fine there.
The Day after that My graphics coursework is due in, well I don't have to perform that on a stage so that isn't of high priority.

Practicing

Since my music teacher wants a recorded version of The Spaceman Cometh I guess I'll have to practise in order to make sure as little mistakes as possible are made. I also have to practise mental health and anthem since those are the songs being performed at the Year 11 Concert, so I have a decent amount to keep myself entertained for awhile at least. When all that is done I need to write that baroque classic (or maybe some other form of classical music), to be honest, I may need to do that before anything else is completed.
On a side note my GUITARMAN GM11 MINI TUNER has arrived and it makes tuning my guitar/bass so much easier since i no longer have to plug it into my bass effects pedal for it to struggle picking up the notes i play, I feel so much better, despite my irrelevant social conflict.
